I had my first taste of a Pornstar Martini in St Tropez with my husband. Sitting at a harbour front cafe looking at the cocktail menu and immediately were intrigued when the name Pornstar Martini popped up.
The drink was developed by Douglas Ankrah and being an expat South African, I was slightly amused to learn that the name was inspired during his visits to a gentlemen’s club in Cape Town called Mavericks.
My version is not the original version by Ankrah, he used vanilla vodka as well as a passionfruit liqueur. This makes for quite an expensive cocktail and it comes at no surprise that this is most often one of the more expensive cocktails to buy. I have simplified mine for us amateur cocktail mixologists.
The Pornstar is a stylish and confident drink, it’s pure indulgence, sexy, evocative and fun!
- 45ml x vodka
- 30ml x passion fruit puree
- 30ml vanilla syrup
- 15ml lime juice
- Fresh passionfruit, halved
- Chilled sparkling champagne/rose/cava/prosecco
- Put all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until cold. (Not the champagne!)
- Strain into a coupe and serve with fresh passionfruit and a shot of champagne on the side.
To make the vanilla syrup : Place 1 cup sugar, 1 cup water and a split vanilla bean and seeds into a pan and dissolve on medium temperature. Once the sugar has melted, bring to boil and remove from heat. Put a lid on it and let it stand for about 30 minutes to 1 hour. Remove the vanilla bean and pour into your storing bottle.
